Sakura Cove

Resident Evil

Anyone who loves survival horror with a lot of zombies and gun should get this game into their collection.  It was first released back on April 30, 2002.  When this first released, many people were surprised how Capcom announced that furture installments for the series would be on Nintendo GameCube.  Its creepy atmosphere, area, and music are bound to make you jump a little when a zombie suddenly pops out at you!

In this game, you'll be able to choose between two characters, each of whom has his/her own weapons.  Jill can use a taser which that will send electric waves throughout the zombies' bodies.  On the other hand, Chris can lodge a grenade into the zombie's mouth, shoot it, and watch it explode.  While both weapons have the ability to stop a zombie in its tracks, the characters also get side weapons called defense knives.  These definitely come in handy when there isn't much moving space and the zombie just get a little to close.  However, knowing when to use the right weapons often can mean the difference between dying or not.  This gives the combat a somewhat complex feel to it, making it fun and challenging.

The controls and gameplay can be rather difficult for those who aren't use to it.  Moving around in certain areas can be difficult because of the pre-rendered surroundings.  As you walk around, the camera is fixed in a certain spot in each area you go through.  This can make it kind of difficult to aim properly when a zombie is coming towards you.  Most the time you'll have to shoot off-screen, which isn't very difficult.  All you have to listen for is the slight jerking noise of the zombie to confirm you are hitting him.  The actual learning/getting the hang of it might take around a half hour or something.

The graphics and character models are well-done.  The characters' hair flow in the wind, objects have very nice textures, and you are able to see weapons on the character's person.  The zombie are very nice and well-designed with how bloody/creepy they look.  However, I think it would have been better to have more variety.  Also, the actual voice acting is rather lacking.  Even though poorly translated lines were removed, you'll still probably laugh at some random phrases.

The music made for this game is definitely good.  However, there are only a few different track, but the one's that are there are more than enough.  It certainly heightens the atmosphere of the area you are in.
